When the vote for Speaker of the Texas House was taken today, Rep. Berman (R-Tyler) required that a record vote be taken of those voting for and those voting against Joe Straus as Speaker.

 

The 15 Heroes of Texas who voted against Straus were as follows:

Minutes of the Precinct 2221-2222-2223 Meeting Last Night

Neighbors of 75214:

 

I'm very pleased to report we had an EXCELLENT turnout for our Joint Precinct Meeting last night at IHOP.

 

Much to my surprise, FIFTEEN people showed up!

 

After we went around the room and shared introductions, we passed out detailed information about Precincts 2221, 2222 and 2223, and discussed the political trends taking place in our neighborhoods.  Though traditionally an area that has strongly supported limited government, free-market candidates, recent trends show increasing support in our area for left-of-center candidates.

 

We discussed the fact that if there is any hope of reversing these trends, it will be up to us.

 

We discussed the idea of moving beyond the traditional intermittent partisan advocacy for a couple months every two years, and into a mindset of sustained philosophical advocacy 365 days a year.

 

We also discussed the importance of getting involved in the primary elections.

 

Although the main meeting ended a little after 8:00 pm, spillover discussions continued until after 9:00 pm.
